Job Overview

Are you passionate about STEM education and enjoy working with kids? We’re looking for a Lead After-School STEM Instructor to join our team. In this role, you’ll lead fun, hands-on STEM lessons for K–8 students in an after-school setting, helping them develop a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging STEM classes to elementary and middle school students
  • Create a positive classroom environment through effective classroom management.
  • Follow structured lesson plans and encourage student participation
  • Be available on weekday afternoons, typically starting between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM
  • Travel to schools across Irvine and surrounding cities to lead in-person programs

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for working with children and sparking their interest in STEM
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Experience working with students in educational or youth-focused environments such as classrooms, after-school programs, camps, or tutoring
  • Currently pursuing or interested in a career in education or a STEM-related field
  • Willingness to grow in public speaking, classroom management, and instructional delivery
  • Strong commitment to delivering high-quality lessons

What does a typical day look like for an after-school STEM instructor?

Our instructors lead hands-on STEM lessons at elementary and middle schools in the afternoon, typically starting between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Each session lasts about an hour and includes a mix of structured teaching, group activities, and science or engineering projects. Lesson plans and materials are provided.

Do I need a teaching credential or degree to apply?

No, a teaching credential or degree is not required. We welcome applicants who are passionate about STEM education and have experience working with youth in educational, camp, or tutoring settings. Many of our instructors are college students pursuing careers in education or science.

How does scheduling work, and how many hours will I get?

This is a part-time role with flexible weekday scheduling. Most instructors work 15–20 hours per week, depending on availability and program needs. We try to match you with school sites close to your location and availability.

Yes, instructors travel to schools within a specific region (like Los Angeles County or Orange County). Reliable transportation is required, and we make every effort to assign you to locations that minimize travel time.

What kind of support or training will I receive?

All instructors go through an onboarding process with training on classroom management, safety protocols, and how to deliver our STEM lessons. Ongoing support is provided by our team leads, and you’ll always have access to lesson plans, supply kits, and guidance throughout your time with us.
